  1. I was good mates with Jon Baker (guitar). We worked together for a shipping company in the mid-80s. At the time I had my first band (doing soul covers). Music pretty much kept us sane through the monotony of office routine. To break the routine a little we'd regularly high-tail it over the Auckland Harbour Bridge to Jon's flat during our lunch-hour on our "new" medium range Japanese motorbikes - roach a split, crank up Jon's stereo, make a sandwich - then, race each other back to work, weaving in and out of traffic, incredibly high. Somehow we made it alive. (Don't try that at home, kids!). I do recall during one of these stoned lunch-hour sessions Jon playing "Another Girl, Another Planet" by The Only Ones. It was incredible. I asked Jon about the band - he said "Oh, they haven't done any else decent, that's their best". Wrong, Jon! The Only Ones in later years became one of my favourite bands. I actually caught Peter Perrett (lead singer with the Only Ones) playing live in Leicester, UK, in 1995 - support band: The Headless Chickens.
